Tips to Protect Feet during Outdoor Adventures

Feet are the foundation for any outdoor activity whether it is hiking, backpacking or camping. Taking of the feet can make a huge difference to the experience. Here are a few tips to protect the feet to be prepared for outdoor adventures and to keep them safe during the trip.
Invest in the right activity-appropriate footwear – The first and foremost step is to invest in quality footwear that is most appropriate to the activity. Hiking boots for hiking can provide good arch support whilst protecting the ankle. Shoes should be waterproof or water resistance especially in moist camping sites. Breathability prevents overheating and provides air circulation. Caution: do not wear brand-new boots for a long hike.
Use proper socks – Avoid wearing cotton socks for outdoor adventures. Use moisture-wicking socks made up of synthetic blends or merino wool. These fabrics reduce friction, keep feet dry and help regulate temperature. Always carry extra pairs during long treks and change wet socks immediately.
Keep the feet clean and dry – Wet feet can lead to discomfort, fungus and blisters. Carry a small towel to dry the feet. Use antifungal spray or foot powder to control moisture. Carry an extra pair of sandals or camp shoes to let the feet breathe during night or rest stops. Let the fee completely air-out during breaks or sleep time.
Do not ignore hot spots – Keep checking the feet for hot spots as they are warning signals for blisters. Use tape or blister pads to reduce friction. Adjust the footwear or socks as needed. Keep a mini foot care kit handy for longer trips.
Foot health is important – Start by trimming toe nails. They should be clean and short as they will help avoid painful injuries during downhill hikes. Those with foot conditions such as bunions or plantar fasciitis, they must use customer support insoles or orthotic pads.
With the right care and preparation, one can carry on with their feet safely and comfortable irrespective of the activity.
